SUMMER 2010 GOLF NEWS

  Beaver Creek Golf Course
It is springtime in the Rockies, which means another great season for golf in wonderful Beaver Creek! We look forward to a great 2010 season and seeing many of you return. The Beaver Creek Golf Shop, being recognized on a national level, won "Top 100 Golf Shops in the Country" by Golf World magazine for the 2009 season. Katie Storm, our golf shop merchandiser, also won a national award by the Association of Golf Merchandisers for the Merchandising Event - "Christmas in July." Katie continues to do a fantastic job and please stop in to congratulate her for all of her hard work.

Chad Thomson, our Golf Course Superintendent, and his staff did a phenomenal job with course conditions last year. It was Chad's first year as Superintendent and he did not let us down. I received comments all season on how great our greens were and many of you felt they were the best in the valley. After clearing snow off the greens, it appears they will be in great condition again this year. I feel nothing is more enjoyable than playing on great greens, which in turn will help you make more putts and improve your score overall. We have great confidence that Chad and his staff will continue to provide the excellent standards that our members have come to expect.

As always, we are looking for ways to improve each event and add new ones to the list. A new event this year will be a Rules/Etiquette Seminar in the member's lounge. Monday's, twice a month, beginning June 14th through August 23rd; 4:00-5:00 pm, there will be an open forum to discuss all course rules and etiquette questions. This forum is meant to clarify these topics, so that you are comfortable playing in any of our events. One event we brought out of retirement is the Ladies' Ringer event. Ladies will keep track of their lowest Gross/Net score on each hole throughout the season. Each participant will have a Ringer score card posted in the Ladies' locker room. If you beat your previous low score on a hole, you change the number on your Ringer score card. The "Pro's" vs. "Joe's" event will be back again this season. Members will have an opportunity to play a two-person best ball event against Dave Lopez and Kenny Thayer every Friday morning. Come out and test your skills against your local golf professionals. Who knows, you might even get a couple golf tips while you are out with us. The 9 Hole Ladies "Fun" group was a success last summer. Any ladies interested in learning more about golf, rules, and pace of play can come out on Wednesday mornings at 8:30 am. They start on the 10th hole; no format, no pressure, no tournament. This is a great opportunity to meet new friends and have a good time playing golf! You can stay after the round for lunch as the golf professionals will be there for you to ask as many questions as you like.

All event sign up's will continue to be located in the Member's Lounge. Beginning May 13th you may start to call (970-754-5193), sign up in person, or e-mail in your request to BeaverCreekGolfClub@vailresorts.com for all of the golf member events. The e-mail system worked well for most of you and is much more efficient when keeping track of sign ups and cancellations. Once we receive your request, you will get an e-mail back confirming you for the event.

Familiar faces like, Kenny Thayer, Head Golf Professional; Ian Parham, as the Assistant Golf Professional and C.J. Rusin as one of the P.G.A. Golf Professionals. Kenny will return in the same capacity and is very excited and looking forward to taking care of your golf needs. Ian has passed his Level I and Level II P.G.A. classes and is very close to becoming a P.G.A. Member. After taking a season off from the Beaver Creek Golf Club, C.J. will be rejoining us and looking forward to renewing his friendships with the membership. The Golf Professional Staff will continue to offer FREE lessons on Thursday's from 3:00pm to 4:00pm, beginning June 10th through September 2nd. Our Golf Professional Staff is willing to help you with all of your golfing needs, including instruction, club fitting, and club repair. Please inquire in the golf shop for more details.

Chef Kirk Weems will return for his fourth season as the Executive Chef at The Rendezvous Club restaurant. Chef Weems does a fantastic job with his food and continues to look for new ideas, purchasing a panini grill this winter and some of you might have had a chance to taste these sandwiches at Allie's Cabin over the winter. I know this will be my new favorite sandwich! Robert Battle will continue to oversee The Rendezvous Club. Between Kirk and Bob all of your food and beverages services will be well taken care of. In addition to our regular hours, The Rendezvous Club will be open for Member Dinner's during the peak summer months on Sunday's evenings. All members and their guests can dine at the club every Sunday night from June 6th - August 29th. Enjoy the relief that comes with knowing you have dinner plans every Sunday after a long weekend! M.O.G.U.L.S will continue to be on Thursday nights from June 10th - September 2nd. Bob and Kirk will continue to make M.O.G.U.L.S a memorable event.

We are dedicated to making the Beaver Creek Golf Club a special place to spend your summer days. Start marking your calendars, as there will be plenty for you to do this summer. If there is anything our staff can do to make the summer more enjoyable, please do not hesitate to contact one of us.

Thank you,
Dave Lopez
