SUMMER 2009 GOLF NEWS

  Beaver Creek Golf Course
2009 brings us to another great season of golf in magnificent Beaver Creek! The Beaver Creek Golf Shop was recently recognized as one of the best golf shops in Colorado by the P.G.A. Colorado Section. Katie Storm, merchandiser, continues to bring in new and exciting products each year. The Rendezvous Club restaurant was open again for member only dinners during the winter season. In addition, we added a couple of special "Theme Night" Dinners. During the peak times, many members took advantage of Chef Weems excellent culinary skills.

There are exciting changes with the golf course staff, Michael Miner has been promoted to the Director of Golf Maintenance at Red Sky Golf Club. We wish him all the best! Chad Thomson is our new Golf Course Superintendent. Chad graduated with honors from Rutgers University in turf maintenance. He has been under Michael's direct supervision as the 1st Assistant all of his five years at the Beaver Creek Golf Club. Chad was selected from an elite group of superintendents across the country to become a member of the course maintenance staff for the 2008 U.S. Senior Open at The Broadmoor. We have great confidence that he will continue to provide the excellent standards that our members have come to expect. The golf course is always looking for improvements and Chad's main focus will be to fine tune our beautiful golf course.

As always, we are looking for ways to improve each event and add a few new ones to the list as well. This year, a new event will be the "Pro's vs. Joe's". Members will have an opportunity to play a two-person best ball event against Dave Lopez and Kenny Thayer every Friday morning. We are also bringing back the 9 Hole Ladies "Fun" group. Any ladies interested in learning more about golf, rules, and pace of play can come out on Wednesday mornings at 8:30am. We will start on the 10th hole; no format, no pressure, no tournament. Come out to meet new friends and have a great time playing golf! Following golf, we will have lunch and you will have an opportunity to ask the golf professionals questions.

The sign-ups for our events will continue to be upstairs in the Member's Lounge. On May 15th you may start signing up over the phone (970-754-5193), in person, or by e-mailing in your request to BeaverCreekGolfClub@vailresorts.com for all of the golf member events. We had requests for e-mail sign-ups. Once we receive your request, you will receive an e-mail confirming you are signed up for the event.

As with prior years, there will be familiar faces as well as new faces. Kenny Thayer, Head Golf Professional, will return in the same capacity. Kenny is very excited to be returning and tending to your golf needs. Ian Parham will return as the Assistant Golf Professional and will be joined by Brad Delman. Brad is a member of the P.G.A. Brad returns to the Vail Valley after working at prestigious clubs including Friar's Head,Pine Hollow Country Club, Catamount Ranch, and The Club at Cordillera. Although he enjoyed his experiences back east, he and his wife, Diana, could not stop thinking about returning to the Vail Valley. Brad is very excited to be joining the Beaver Creek Golf Club staff. He looks forward to helping you out in any way that he can; from teaching lessons to making sure you have the proper equipment for your game. The Golf Professional staff will continue to offer FREE lessons on Thursday's from 3:00pm to 4:00pm, beginning June 11th through September 3rd. Our professional golf staff is willing to help you with all of your golfing needs, including instruction, club fitting, and club repair. Please inquire in the golf shop for more details. Katie Storm will return as our golf shop merchandiser. In Katie's second season, she had a tremendous role in the Beaver Creek Golf Shop being being recognized as one of the top golf shops in Colorado. I know Katie is very eager and willing to help you look your very best on and off the golf course.

Chef Kirk Weems will return to The Rendezvous Club restaurant this season. Some of you were able to take advantage of his skills this winter during our member dinners, which had excellent reviews. Bob Battle will also continue to oversee The Rendezvous Club along with Jeff Baker. Jeff currently manages SaddleRidge restaurant. Prior to SaddleRidge, Jeff was the assistant manager at Beano's Cabin under Bob Battle. Between Kirk, Bob, and Jeff all of your food and beverages services will be attended to. The restaurant will be open everyday for lunch from 11:00 - 3:00 and the bar will stay open from 3:00 - 8:00 for all your favorite drinks and bar appetizers. In addition to our regular hours, The Rendezvous Club will be open for dinner during the peak summer months on Sundays. All members and their guests can dine at the club every Sunday night from June 14th - September 6th. Come in for a nice dinner and enjoy the relief that comes with knowing you have dinner plans every Sunday after a long weekend. MOGULS will continue to be on Thursday nights from June 11th - September 3rd. Bob and Kirk will continue to make MOGULS a fun and special event.

All of these changes are aimed at making the Beaver Creek Golf Club a special place to spend your summer days. Please do not hesitate to contact us if there is anything we can do to enhance your golf experience.
